According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2 Peter 1:3

In Part 1 of this series, we learned how you can get anything you need in life from the study of the Word. You can go through Part 1 of this study to see how the Bible shows this to us.

Today, we will go on to the next verse after the ones we treated in Part 1. It says:

But to obtain these gifts, you need more than faith; you must also work hard to be good, and even that is not enough. For then you must learn to know God better and discover what he wants you to do. 2 Pet 1:5 TLB

In other words, as you study the Word, do more than just get faith from it. Let it teach you to be good, and then also add the knowledge of other things He wants you to do, to that.

Some Christians feel getting a lot of general, academic knowledge is not the best, but the Bible actually tells us in this passage to add such knowledge to our faith.

Look at this:

For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

II Peter 1:8 NKJV

If you add these to your faith, it will not be barren or unfruitful. In other words, your life in Christ would be full of results and blessings.

Let’s see more of them.

And in exercising knowledge develop self-control, and in exercising self-control develop steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in exercising steadfastness develop godliness (piety) 2 Peter 1:6 AMPC

Peter still urges us to add to this general knowledge, self-control (self-discipline), patience, and piety (godliness), hallelujah!

And in exercising godliness develop brotherly affection, and in exercising brotherly affection develop Christian love.

2 Peter 1:7 AMPC

The next two things it says we need are brotherly affection and Christian love.

Once again:

For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

II Peter 1:8 NKJV

The life of fruitfulness is yours, in Jesus Name. Add these things that show your growth in Christ to your faith, and let your results blossom in Him!

CONFESSION

I am full of grace and blessings in Christ. I add to my faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, patience and piety. I am not barren or unfruitful in my knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Instead I am full of blessings, results, increase and glory in Christ Jesus. I am more than a winner and a conqueror, in Jesus Name!

MORE LIGHT (MEDITATE ON, AND PRAY WITH THESE)

2 Peter 1:2,3,5-8 TLB Do you want more and more of God’s kindness and peace? Then learn to know him better and better.

[3]For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us!

[4]And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised; for instance, the promise to save us from the lust and rottenness all around us, and to give us his own character.

[5]But to obtain these gifts, you need more than faith; you must also work hard to be good, and even that is not enough. For then you must learn to know God better and discover what he wants you to do.

[6]Next, learn to put aside your own desires so that you will become patient and godly, gladly letting God have his way with you.

[7]This will make possible the next step, which is for you to enjoy other people and to like them, and finally you will grow to love them deeply.

[8]The more you go on in this way, the more you will grow strong spiritually and become fruitful and useful to our Lord Jesus Christ.
