How to get your prayer request answered by not giving up
In the whole of the New Testament, there is hardly a story that is as amazing as the story of the Syrophenecian woman in Mark chapter 7. It tells us why we should never give up on our prayer request.
Mark 7:24 From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. He said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.”
In other words, Jesus told her ‘No, I can’t do that for your daughter, it would not be right’
Jesus refused to grant her prayer request. Look at what happened next.
The Unrelenting Prayer Request
28 But she answered him, “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
In other words, she said, ‘NO, I don’t agree with that sir, I feel you should still help her’
29 Then he said to her, “FOR SAYING THAT, you may go—the demon has left your daughter.”
And straight away, Jesus said, ‘For saying that’ – for disagreeing with me – go home, I have done it.
30 So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus seemed to have blessed someone for not agreeing with Him…
It seems so strange, but when we study more in the Word, we discover this is actually very c
onsistent with God’s character.
In Luke 18, Jesus gave a parable about the importunate widow. The Bible narrates it thus: One day Jesus taught the apostles to keep saying their prayer request, and NEVER stop or lose hope – Luke 18:1. He shared with them this illustration: (Luke 18:1).
In the Old Testament the Lord appears to Jacob as an angel, to give him the opportunity to actually FIGHT Him for a blessing – Gen 32:24-30.
God wants us not to give up in asking Him for blessings. N
o matter how bad your situation is, pray, ask, believe and speak your faith.
He wants you to do it.
And He will still answer…
